11/10/2003 - Zoës Kitchen opens flagship store downtown

Zoës Kitchen has unveiled a new brand identity and opened a new flagship store in downtown Birmingham, located on the ground floor of the One Federal Place building on the corner of Fifth Avenue North and 18th Street.

The store will take the place of the Zoës located on Fourth Avenue North, which is being closed to make way for a parking deck.

"Our flagship Zoës launches a dramatic rebranding that sets the stage for an aggressive expansion into new markets," said Zoës CEO John Cassimus in a press statement. "The interior is colorful and modern and will be a part of our new look for all our stores. The menu will remain essentially the same, with the focus on tasty, healthy sandwich and salad fare using all fresh ingredients."

There now are four Zoës restaurants in the Birmingham area, one in Tuscaloosa and two in Nashville. Zoës Kitchen soon will open locations in Mountain Brook's Crestline Village; Montgomery; Mobile; Memphis; Phoenix, Ariz.; and Destin, Fla.

The new location will provide Zoës with enough space to handle larger volume and get fresh food to the customer more efficiently.

"Our all-new store design is based on information we attained through market research and by talking to our customers," Cassimus said. "As we expand nationwide, it's important to be credible to consumers in new markets."

Columbus, Ohio, design firm Chute Gerdeman created the restaurant's new logo, interior and architectural design.

Restaurant hours at the new location are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Breakfast and lunch will be served. The entire menu is offered for catering, and delivery is available.

Zoës Kitchen specializes in quick-serve casual lunches and maintains an Internet Web site at www.zoeskitchen.com.
