As far as I can recall, being a teenager and going the movies was always an enjoyable trip. Good friends, buttery popcorn, cute boys and occasionally the unforgettable high school drama. Now as a mom of four, I absolutely dread the movies. Seriously - there is almost nothing satisfying about paying $12 a person in addition to spending half a paycheck on candy and soda (because no matter how hard I try, we’re never out the door early enough to stop at Walgreens and get the $1 candy to hide in the diaper bag.) THEN, I have to attempt to balance the booster seat on my hip as I navigate the herd and the tray full of expensive crap into the dimly lit theatre. Once we’ve found the spot, the argument arises over where to sit, who sits by me and who doesn’t sit by Chase because he eats all the candy and wipes his butter fingers on everyone else. I’m exhausted just writing about it. So I came to the conclusion the movies were ruined for me. Which was a real bummer for my husband, who happens to love going to a good movie- and thankfully still likes doing things with me. There would never be another relaxing, fun theatre trip unless the ticket price includes free daycare – across town.
It all changed however, with I Pic. THIS is what I call a fresh take on movies. If you haven’t been to one of these new “luxury” theatres, do yourself a favor and go - without the kids. Plan on just you and the girls - or maybe even a hot date. This homey space finally figured out how to help moms and busy couples enjoy a movie AND a glass of wine and a cheese trio at the same time! What’s even better is that this is no “studio movie grill” with weird office chairs in lieu of movie seats. Oh no, these seats at I Pic are fantastic. Imagine the real mahogany colored, leather recliners with big fleece blankets begging you to curl into them as you take in Hollywood’s dreams and attempt not to drift into your own. Yes, I think I finally found a way to enjoy the movies once again. Until discovering this new fresh take on movie theatres, I would leave our movie dates certain that the couch would have been better – but now I’m a born again movie lover.
